“ANOTHER GLARING CASE OF POLITICAL PERSECUTION”
On Tuesday 23rd February 2016, I honoured an invitation from the EFCC to clarify issues related to an ongoing investigation by EFCC.
They confronted me with allegations of receiving some cars from Mr. Jide Omokore who has been my friend for over 20 years.
I admitted to them that Mr. Jide Omokore has given me car gifts on several occasions in the last 10 years for my personal use.
I want to state categorically that what I received from my friend, Jide Omokore were cars and buses supplied by a well-known car company, Skymit Motors apparently from a credit facility Mr Omokore has with the company. I don’t have any knowledge of the so-called transaction the investigators are alleging he had with NNPC.
Against this background, it is most disheartening that the facts of the matter under investigation have been grossly misrepresented in the media, apparently under inducement by some political opponents in the APC particularly, a Minister from Rivers State.
This is in line with the strategy of the ruling Party to hide under the anti-corruption fight to humiliate the leadership of our Party.
I have been granted bail under very stringent conditions after 8 days in detention. Since the EFCC did not establish any case against me, I find my needless detention a clear case of witch-hunt and pure political persecution that has become a stock in trade of the APC government.
My immediate concern is the denial of the fundamental human rights, excessive physical incarceration and the orchestrated negative media campaign completely skewed against those being investigated.
Nevertheless, I hereby restate my confidence in the rule of law and the relevant institutions for the resolution of this matter on its merit in the interest of justice.

Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) takes delivery of five coaches
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Thursday received five coaches for use by the corporation to modernize the rail transportation sector of the country.The coaches were received at the ENL Terminal, Apapa Port, Lagos.
The coaches that arrived are three standard coaches of 80 passengers capacity , one executive coach with capacity for 56, and one Parcel/ Guard Van coach.
The coaches would be operational by May on its standard gauge operation between Kaduna and Abuja

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the era of empty political promises in the political arena of the state is gone, saying that every single campaign promise he made will be fulfilled by his administration .
Speaking during the Foundation Laying Ceremony of the Rumuwoji (Mile 1) Market Phase 2 in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Governor Wike said he remains committed to the delivery of quality projects that will enhance the standard of living of the people.
He said that he pledged during the campaigns to rebuild the burnt Rumuwoji market when the former Amaechi administration used it to play politics. He said the groundbreaking which will be driven to completion is in fulfilment of his pledge.
He said: "You people (Rumuwoji people) have done your part by voting me as your governor. It is now my turn to fulfill my campaign promises, which we have already started. At the completion of the market, the indigenes of Rumuwoji will be allocated a percentage of the shops".
The governor directed the Commissioner for Housing to commence negotiation for the acquisition of two houses closes to the market for the necessary expansion to accommodate Street traders.
He said his administration has despite the challenges of funding addressed the infrastructural needs of different suburbs in Port Harcourt.
In his remarks, Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, Mr Emma Okah said the Rumuwoji Market which has been razed down several times, will be upgraded with modern amenities .
He said that the new market will have 1356 stores, three clinics, elevators, 72 toilets and underground parking lot. He regretted that the former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, despite huge resources available to his administration, refused to rebuild the market despite several promises.
Chairman of Monier Construction Company, Senator John Mbata assured Governor Wike that the project will be completed on schedule. He said his company will adhere to the terms of the Public Private Partnership, PPP, entered into with the State Government.
Caretaker Committee Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Mr Samuel Ejekwu commended Governor Wike for executing several key projects in the area.

Breaking News: DSS arrest Chief Victor Umeh
The Department of State Services,DSS this afternoon arrested Chief Sir Victor Umeh the Senatorial candidate of APGA and former national chairman of APGA.
It is gathered that he was arrested in his house in Enugu and taken to Abuja for interrogation.His media aide,Mr.Stan Okeke,who confirmed the arrest to journalists in Enugu said it was due to a petition by Senator uche Ekwunife,former Governor Peter Obi and Uzu Awka.
He said he is being accused of being the sponsor of the recent pro-Biafra activities of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
He also confirmed that he was never handcuffed and flown to Abuja but they They travelled by road and as I speak with you
(8.25PM), they are still on their way to Abuja”.Okeke said.

INEC to deploy 36,335 staff for FCT and Rivers elections
Press Statement from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) clearly stating how many staffs that will be deployed to conduct the elections in FCT Abuja and Rivers re-run elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will deploy a total of 36, 335 permanent and ad-hoc staff for the conduct of the Federal Capital Territory Chairmanship and Area Council Elections and the Rivers state Court-ordered re-run elections both scheduled for Saturday 19th March, 2016.
For the FCT Chairmanship and Area Council elections, the Commission will deploy 9,933 staff, while for the Rivers state re-run elections, INEC will deploy a total of 26,402 staff.
The FCT Area Council, with a total of 1,020,799 registered voters in six (6) Area Councils will be manned by: 6,624 Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs I, II, III); 9,375 Presiding Officers; 62 Supervising Presiding Officers (SPOs); 62 Collation Officers (CO); and 6 Returning Officers (RO) with 428 Reserves.
The Rivers State Court-ordered re-run elections which has: 3 Senatorial Constituencies, 12 Federal Constituencies and 22 State House of Assembly elections with a total of 2,538,535 registered voters will be manned by: 17,673 Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs I, II, III); 24,573 Presiding Officers (POs); 444 Supervising Presiding Officers (SPOs); 341 Collation Officers (CO); 37 Returning Officers (RO) and 1,007 Reserves.
The Rivers state re-run elections will hold in 22 out of the 23 Local Government Areas, and in a total of 4,442 Polling Units across the state.

Breaking News: Former Interior Minister Abba Moro released from Prison
The federal high court,Abuja ,presided over by Justice A.I.Chikere,today granted the former minister of interior Abba Moro, bail on self recognition while the other two accused were granted bail in the sum of N100m and one surety each in like sum.
The sureties must be directors in one of the federal civil service and must submit their two recent passport photographs.
Justice Chikere while delivering her ruling on the former ministers bail application,held that Abba Moro had no criminal record and was a public office holder,and will not jump bail.
She fixed 27th April 2016 for the commencement of the trial.

"Youths of Nigeria, I want to communicate with you today. I noticed that there are too many divisions amongst our youths and as a stakeholder in Nigeria and parent of Nigerian children, I believe I ought to intervene.
Youths, do not make the mistakes my generation made. Do not see yourselves through tribal and religious lens. My generation of Nigerians did that and look where it has led us. You must do better.
It is foolish for any youth to fight another youth over APC or PDP. Let me ask you, what is the difference between the APC and the PDP? Half of the members of the APC are former PDP members and vice versa.
Let me ask you youths a question: Do the APC and the PDP fight over you as you fight over them? How many ministers have they given you? How many ambassadors have they given you? How many heads of parastatals have they given you? That's right, the answer is ZERO!
So resist the desire of vested interests to control you and use you to fight other youths on social media and in real life.
What youths do not realize is that you are victims of divide and conquer. You make up 60% of the population yet account for 0% of the federal cabinet!
Your price should be more than a plate of rice and a handshake. Work together not against each other! Come on Nigerian youths, be smart!
If you think after you have been used to fight each other these vested interests will hand power to you, think again. Their kids who are abroad will do same to your kids!
