According to reports by South African online news portal News24 Nigerian pastor and Senior Pastor of Christ Embassy Pastor Chris Oyakhilome may soon be in for big trouble if his church which has a branch in South Africa refuses to release their financial records.

Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission)is threatening to jail some religious leaders who have refused to adhere to the commissions demands.
‎Due to the recent outcry on the commercialization of churches, the commission head Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said it was investigating the commercialization of religion and abuse of people’s beliefs and had summoned several churches to appear before it with their registration certificate, ordination certificate, and financial statements from 2012.The church leaders having failed to adhere to the commission's demands has forced them to seek legal action on the defaulters.
“Some of these religious leaders will face prison if they do not comply and we have been clear about our course of action,” Mkhwanazi-Xaluva told News24.

“Some religious leaders have also threatened the commission, which is leading us towards the legal route.”
“Some of these religious leaders will face prison if they do not comply and we have been clear about our course of action. Some religious leaders have also threatened the commission, which is leading us toward the legal route. Saps have been notified already,” she said.

She said she could not understand why some pastors who took money from their followers were now unable to provide the commission with financial records.

“These people take money from people. What are they doing with that money? We want to know. We will not back down,” she said.
