President Buhari's Easter Message to Nigerian Christians
I rejoice with you all, especially our Christian brothers and sisters, as we celebrate Easter.
For Christians all over the world, this celebration is in commemoration of the supreme sacrifice which Jesus Christ made for the salvation of mankind.
The Gospels also tell us that during his earthly ministry, Jesus Christ repeatedly urged his disciples and followers to "love one another as I have loved you".
As we celebrate Easter this year, I sincerely believe that it will serve our dear nation very well if we all imbibe this essential message of Jesus Christ and truly learn to love our countrymen and women as we love ourselves.
Indeed, we will surely make faster progress towards the achievement of the peaceful, united, strong, progressive and prosperous country we all desire if, as a nation, we eschew all divisive, parochial, ethnic and religious sentiments and rivalries, and begin to live more harmoniously with our compatriots, as Jesus Christ and the founders of the world's other great religions enjoined mankind.
Our unfortunate notoriety in recent years as a country where the blood of men, women and children are wantonly and callously shed in frequent orgies of criminal, political, ethnic and religious violence has become very embarrassing and utterly unacceptable.
My administration is determined to achieve greater peace and security across our nation by ending the avoidable conflicts and crises that hinder our national progress.
I ask for greater support from all Nigerians in this regard. We must put a stop to politically motivated killings. Our communities must be made safe again for all inhabitants to live together in peace and harmony.
Our armed forces, police and other security agencies are being progressively reformed, repositioned and empowered to win the war against terrorism and make mass killings, abductions and other criminal atrocities things of the past in our beloved country.
Let us all also play our parts as patriotic citizens and do all that we can to ensure that we make Nigeria a safer, more peaceful and happier place for its people and others.
Faith, belief and the fulfillment of expectations are also key themes of the Easter celebration. I urge you all therefore, to continue to have faith in the future greatness of our country and to believe that the CHANGE my administration promised will surely come to fruition.
That CHANGE, which we all yearn for, will certainly occur more rapidly if we all place the love of our country above selfish personal and group interests.
The National Assembly has just passed the 2016 budget. I assure all Nigerians that we will do our utmost best to ensure that the budget, the first since my election as President, is efficiently and successfully implemented towards achieving our objective of faster economic growth and development.
I thank the vast majority of Nigerians for their patience and understanding in the first ten months of this administration.
As we go forward, I assure you all that we are working very hard to overcome the challenges we encountered on assumption of office.
We are moving on with an unshaken resolve and determination to deliver on the mandate you gave us on March 28, last year.
I wish you all very happy Easter celebrations.

PDP shares Easter Message preaches Unity and Forgiveness Urges End To Bitterness
Press Statement
Easter: PDP Preaches Newness, Unity, Forgiveness
….Urges End To Bitterness
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) felicitates with Nigerians on this year’s Easter, while urging them to use the occasion to renew the bond of love, forgiveness and peaceful co-existence, irrespective of religious, ethnic and political persuasions.
The party said “just as Easter represents the triumph of life over death, Nigerians can draw strength and inspiration to overcome the division, disagreements and bitterness that now threaten the unity and corporate existence of our dear nation”.
The party, in a goodwill message issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh on Saturday said such devotion to national unity and harmony is paramount to overcoming the economic, social and security challenges presently confronting the nation.
“Indeed, the occasion of Easter presents us a great lesson in faith in the Almighty God and the triumph of good over evil, the very reason we must humble ourselves and seek divine intervention for our dear country.
“Our unity is our strongest source of strength as a nation. We must therefore collectively determine to end the bitterness, hostilities and division that keep us apart and seek only the virtues of love, forgiveness, charity and such others that unite us as a people.
“In the same vein, duty beckons on all of us to imbibe a life of constant prayers for our leaders at all levels to be divinely guided against actions and inactions that tend to polarize the people and create tension in the land.
“We must all continue to see ourselves as brothers and sisters and work together towards fulfilling the mind of God who, in His infinite wisdom destined us to live together as a united and prosperous nation, where nobody is molested and where fairness and the wellbeing of all citizens are paramount as guaranteed within the laws.
“On this note the PDP joins in praying for the nation and wishing all citizens happy Easter celebrations.

Presidency disassociates itself from #ISTANDWITHBUHARI GROUP
PRESIDENCY DISSOCIATES ITSELF FROM #ISTANDWITHBUHARI GROUP
The Presidency formally dissociates itself from the #Istandwithbuhari advocacy group and demands that the group should immediately stop claiming any alliance with the Buhari Administration.
The Presidency also demands that the persons behind the controversial #Istandwithbuhari group should stop using President Muhammadu Buhari's name and that of his wife, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari to promote themselves and their activities.
Among other reasons, we have found it necessary to distance the Presidency from the #Istandwithbuhari group because its premature and ostentatious celebration of the present administration's achievements is totally inconsistent with President Buhari's philosophy of service with humility.
While the present administration has indeed recorded significant successes in its priority areas of improving security across the nation, ending the Boko Haram insurgency, curbing official corruption and revamping Nigeria's economy, President Buhari is well aware that his government still has a lot of national challenges to overcome.
The President prefers to give his fullest attention to addressing those challenges without the unsolicited and unwelcome distraction of untimely praise-singing from groups with dubious and questionable motives.

Freeze CoolFm decribed the meaning of "Police Force"frowns at why Lekki Gardens MD is still being held after court granted him bail
I just got this message from a concerned citizen. If this is true, why is the police holding him after the court granted him bail?
From my understanding of the term 'police force' they are 'law enforcement agents' not 'the law'. Wikipedia defines the police force as "a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder.[1]" Questions arising
1. If the police is supposed to 'enforce the law' not 'dictate' the law, and the court has granted bail while the police is allegedly still holding him, does this mean that the 'Nigerian police force' has another definition contrary to the globally accepted one?
2. Are we practicing 'democracy' or the Nigerian definition of 'democracy' which makes "some animals more equal than others"??
3. LEKKI gardens employs 8,000 + people directly and indirectly. With Richard incarcerated, what is the fate of these people on the short term? while we celebrate this Easter holiday who takes care of the 'immediate needs' of these 8,000 people and their long term needs including school fees, medical bills etc?
4. If LEKKI gardens build 6000 houses and one collapsed what percentage is that again? 0.016666666666667%???
5. The church 'owned' the house that collapsed, because according to reports, additional floors were added with occupants already in it, while Richard doesn't technically 'own' the property in question until he accepts it from the contractor that was outsourced to build it by "accepting possession of the property. So why is it looking like there is something else in this particular case?

Imo 2019, All Eyes on Sir Jude Ejiogu - Prof. Protus Nathan Uzorma
This is a sponsored post:
Baltasar Gracian (1601-1658) authoritatively warned that one in a power seeking position should “avoid outshining the Master. All superiority is odious, but the superiority of a subject over his prince is not only stupid, it is fatal. This is a lesson that the stars in the sky teach us- They may be related to the sun, and just as brilliant, but they never appear in her company.”
This is also the first Law of Power elaborated by Robert Green- Never Outshine the Master, and in transgression of this rule, Governor Rochas Okorocha wants to play tricks on the bundle of the Masters of the game- Imo elites, grand politicians, clairvoyants and perspective planners. This art of displaying his talent and to outshine his Masters, he has lanced in the present sack of Sir Jude Ejiogu, the Secretary to the State Government (SGI) and his former Chief of Staff.
What are the power play and game behind Jude Ejiogu’s sack? Was he stubborn? Did he do like Nicolas Fouquet, Louis XIV’s finance minister who in playing games to outshine his master not only lost his position, but his freedom as well for decades? Did anybody in Imo State hear any squabbles between the Governor and the SGI? Or are top political appointees under him from Owerri zone doomed to have same fate-Sir Jude Agabaso (Deputy Gov) and now Sir Jude Ejiogu (SGI)?
Why is it that barely eight months, Imo has had two SGI- Prof Anthony Anwuka and Sir Jude Ejiogu? Is that sit hot for Okorocha that he sends them away as such? Perhaps, why he removed Prof Anwuka was to make him the Nyeson Wike of Imo State or to take him far, far away from the corridors of local power tussles so that he can secretly plot his game and shine at the end. All these are speculations and possibilities.
But in the present sack of the SGI, Sir Jude Ejiogu, there is no other power game than the simulation of the technique used by Governor Okpabio, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State. It was the same technique that Akpabio used last time on Udom, the present Governor of Akwa Ibom, whom he compelled to resign three years to the time, and he quietly went back to his LGA, and latter he was the same person Akpabio nominated as Governor and he picked a woman as running mate; today as the game worked perfectly well for Akpabio, Udom is the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
The issue is that Jude came as the SGI and now Okorocha has sacked him, and the only reason for sacking him is that Okorocha wants somebody to cover his all ills at his departure, and has thus perfected plans to use the purportedly sacked Jude Ejiogu for the classical power game-plan. Thus, in stead of being sacked for any degree of wrongdoing, what Okorocha wants to do is to package him (Sir Jude Ejiogu) for absolute self-replacement in 2019, and during election, Okorocha will be pretentiously projecting somebody else, and every person will think that Okorocha is actually and heartily supporting such a one; without knowing that he will be secretly sponsoring Sir Jude Ejiogu.
In this classical ‘the more you look, the less you see game-plan,’ all eyes will be out on Sir Jude Ejiogu given the impression of the present day sack, and there will be paper works on Jude Ejiogu saying that he did this or did that. The reason of the calumny will just be to make sure that people remove their eyes from Sir Jude Ejiogu.
The issue now is that the same person he sacked- Sir Jude Ejiogu, Governor Okorocha like his former colleague, Governor Godswill Akpabio, may be preparing for Imo 2019. And people may not know. The game thus is such that if Sir Jude Ejiogu emerges as the Governor as Okorocha projects, he will cover the ills of Okorocha, because the Rochas we know would want somebody that will perfectly cover all his ills to avoid post-power wrecks by anti-graft agencies, and thus to be planted there as the Governor of Imo State.
But even at that, as Jude Ejiogu is sacked, does the sack remove Okorocha’s political blood from running in him- Jude Ejiogu? The theory of influence from masters cannot be exonerated from this, and as the French say-Tel papa tel fils, like father like son. Sir Jude thus has all these qualities of his master Okorocha and must accomplish the will of this master. The only remedy to this is for all eyes to be on Jude Ejiogu, because anything about Okorocha should not smell the Government House come 2019, as Okorocha and all his cronies must leave. Imolites are the bulk masters of the political game-plan and must not be outshone; it is a transgression of the law to power that you cannot outshine the master and survive the antics.
Being the Imo State Governor, Okorocha is a nominated master amidst the great game-masters that allowed him rule over them, and now he is trying to use a well-known technique in order to play on their intelligence, purporting to have problems with Sir Jude Ejiogu. And what problem is he having with him? There is nothing- From Chief of Staff to SGI and from SGI to nothing, as he is now sacked. Is it that Sir Jude Ejiogu will pose a serious challenge to him in 2019 or is it that Governor Okorocha is preparing him for 2019?
Is it that he told him to step aside and prepare him so that people will think they are quarrelling, and secretly prepare and package him for 2019, while bringing another person and being deceived, people will be looking that it will be Mr A while his mind and focus is on Mr B. Because if it seems they are quarrelling, nobody will take proper cognisance of Jude Ejiogu, and thus Jude will emerge and still cover the ills of Okorocha.
As this is no speculation but revealed power game-plan of the Imo con artist and Governor who wants to outshine all Imolites who are his master, Imolites should collectively rise and focus their eyes and searchlight on Sir Jude Ejiogu (as his number one candidate for Imo 2019) and all Okorocha’s appointees and allied forces. The only person that Imo should know in 2019 must be a neutral and different person. Thus, any person that has under Okorocha been SA, PA, Commissioner, House of Assembly or House of Reps member and Senator must not be considered or nominated as gubernatorial candidate; otherwise these evils as witnessed in this administration will never be stamped out.
Thus, a different person who has not tasted power should be brought in to sanitise that system and governance in Imo State, and that is the only way Imo can move forward. All these people clamouring for power should not even think of possessing it; Imo should bring a different and neutral person who will convert the Sphilbat to be the new Government House and not the converse of making a personal multi-billion house Government House Annex as Okorocha did and all State funds vanish in broad daylight.

BREAKINGNEWS: Presidential Committee indicts over 300 ONSA contractors, recovers over N7 Billion, ask for refund of N41 Billion
A committee set up to probe contracts awarded by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from 2011 to 2015 has indicted more than 300 companies and prominent citizens including serving and retired officers of the armed forces.
Over N7 Billion has been recovered so far from the indicted companies and individuals.
Another N41 Billion is to be refunded by the indicted companies while further investigation by the EFCC has been ordered to determine whether another N75 Billion should be recovered from some of the companies for unexecuted or partially executed contracts.
The committee further established that one of the indicted companies, Societe D'Equipment International was overpaid to the tune of 7.9 Million Euros and $7.09 Million.
The committee which is different from the committee that is investigating the Defence Arms and Equipment Procurement, discovered that there was a total disregard of salient provisions of the Public Procurement Act in the award of contracts by ONSA.
Several contractors were apparently over paid, while others were given full upfront payments contrary to their contract terms and agreements in force.
There was also evidence of payments to individuals and companies by ONSA without any contractual agreement or evidence of jobs executed. The committee further discovered that somecompanies failed to meet up their tax obligations for contracts executed.
The Committee has made attempts and succeeded in recovering some of the funds from these individuals and
organizations amounting to Three Billion, Five Hundred and Thirty Seven Million, Five Hundred and forty Nine Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty Three Naira and Four Kobo (N3,537,549,223.04), Eight Million US Dollars
($8,000,000.00) and houses worth Five Hundred and Twelve Million Naira (512,000,000.00) from 32 companies. The Committee also established that some individuals and companies received monies without evidence of
contractual agreements or jobs done. The amount received by these individuals was Seven Billion One Hundred and Four Million, Nine Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Naira only (N7,104,925,000.00).
In a similar vein, the Committee revealed that some companies that failed to execute contracts or did so partially
were to make refunds. The total amount to be refunded is Nineteen Billion, Eight Hundred and Ninety Six Million, five Hundred and Thirty Nine Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-five Naira and thirty kobo (N19,896,539,125.20) only, Forty Three Million Seven Hundred and Seventy One Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty Three US Dollars and Seventy-Three Cents ($43,771,433.73) and 2 houses in Abuja worth Two Hundred and Sixty Million Naira (N260,000,000.00).
The Committee also revealed that 15 companies were awarded contracts that require further investigation to
ascertain the status of their contracts. The total value of the contracts awarded in this category was Eleven Billion Seven Hundred and Twenty Six Million Five Hundred and Seventy One Naira only (N11,726,571,161.00), Two Hundred and Two Million, One Hundred and Twenty Six Thousand, Eight Hundred and Ninety US Dollars only ($202,136,890.00) and Four Million, One Hundred and Fourteen Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Two Euros and Ninety Six Cents (€4,114,752.96).

IGP Solomon Arase sends Easter greeting to all Christians
IGP SALUTES CHRISTIANS AT EASTER
· Urges Nigerians to emulate the selfless lifestyle of Christ
· Enjoins citizens to be safety conscious
· Orders AIGs and CPs to beef-up security.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase, fdc, NPM, on behalf of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, sends his hearty greetings to the entire Christian community in Nigeria, as they join their brethren across the globe, to mark the 2016 Easter celebration.
While urging Nigerians to emulate and adopt the selfless lifestyle of Christ, the IGP enjoins them to be open minded to issues of forgiveness, peace and harmonious co-existence, in consonance with the principles and teachings of Christ, especially, in this trying moment in the history of our dear country.
He equally urges worshippers at Church services to make conscious effort to know fellow members of their congregation, as this will make it easier to know who is a stranger in their midst. He reiterates the need for worshippers to be security alert and report all suspicious characters and observations to the Police.
The IGP advises operators of motor parks, shopping malls and recreational centres to work very closely with the Police and other security agencies as they strive to strengthen general security in their respective facilities.
Meanwhile, to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Easter celebration, the IGP has directed all Zonal AIGs and State Command Commissioners of Police to take all necessary measures in ensuring the provision of adequate security for worshippers, travellers, picnickers and all citizens across the country before, during and after the festive season. Command Commissioners of Police are to personally ensure that all key and vulnerable points within their jurisdictions, including places of worship, recreation centres, motor parks, highways, financial institutions and all places of public resort are adequately and effectively protected.
IGP Arase wishes, in the spirit of the season, to salute officers and men of the Force for their courage, dedication, tireless and selfless services to Nigerians and the country, especially, in the face of current challenges. He restated the resolve and commitment of the present Police Administration to reposition the Force for greater efficiency, including bargaining for better welfare package and more conducive working conditions.
While commending Nigerians for their patience, understanding and cooperation with the Police in the fight against crime and criminality, the Inspector-General of Police enjoins them to continue to support the Force with useful information that will effectively assist the Police in tracking down undesirable elements in the society. He sues for peace from all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious, political and socio-cultural leaning.

Religious tolerance key to fight against insurgency - Bukola Saraki
Speaking while receiving the leadership of Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society Of Nigeria (NASFAT), who paid him a courtesy visit on Wednesday in Abuja, Saraki, according to a statement by the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Public Affairs, Mohammed Isa, stressed that though President Muhammadu Buhari's administration is winning the war against insurgency in the North East, the long term solution to the issue is to preach, entrench and sustain religious tolerance and harmony not only among Muslims but among adherents of all religions.
"Yes, the government of President Buhari is winning the war against insurgency, but that will be a short time solution. The long term and sustainable solution is to make people understand the teachings of their religion and have respect for the beliefs which others hold dear.
"That responsibility is not for the government. It is for religious leaders and organizations such as NASFAT. We need to educate the people on the importance of peace, tolerance and harmony as enjoined by the teachings of all religions.
"It is my belief that the root of religious conflicts not only in Nigeria but across the world is the lack of proper understanding of the teachings of religions, as no religion encourages violence and other forms of aggression against other people.
"This is where you and other religious groups like yours come in. You need to preach to people on the importance of peace, the need to accommodate other people's views, obey the laws of the land and treat one another as brothers and sisters", he said.
Saraki commended the organization for making peace and harmony the corner piece in its preaching and other activities, noting that, "our generation must preach peace like our forefathers did, and ensure that the next generation do not witness what we are witnessing today".
Saraki congratulated NASFAT on its numerous achievements in its 21 years of existence and pledged the support of the National Assembly for the organization to realize its objectives.
Earlier in his remarks, NASFAT President, Kamil Yomi Bolarinwa said the visit was mainly to extend an invitation to the Senate President and other Senators for the organisation's 21st anniversary beginning from Friday.
Bolarinwa said NASFAT made religious tolerance a centerpiece of its Islamic propagation based on the teachings of Islam that enjoined its adherents to coexist with all in peace .
He said, "our religion has taught us to live in peace with ourselves and with our neighbours, and that is what we have been preaching and doing in the last 21 years."
Islam, he said is all about peace, and recalled that all the wars fought by prophet Muhammad were on self defense, adding that, "we are taught that we are not complete Muslims until we like to others what we like to ourselves".
He assured the Senate President of NASFAT's support and encouragement for him to succeed in discharging his responsibilities, particularly in the area of finding a lasting peace for the nation.
Among the achievements of NASFAT, according to Its President, were establishment of a university, nursery and primary schools and 25 branches of the association outside the world, apart from the branches spread across the country.

The Smell of Trivia - Garba Shehu
A good number of the reactions to President Muhammadu Buhari’s announcement that Nigeria has joined the Islamic Coalition Against Terrorism, show quite clearly that many Nigerians do not fully understand the president’s motives for this decision. With the rise of the Boko Haram Terrorist group of the past few years, Nigeria faces a threat such as no other in its entire history and existence. Desperate times require desperate, unusual, measures.
The girls in Gwoza who were raped by militants do not care where the help comes from as far as they will eventually be able to move about freely without fear of being kidnapped and used as sex slaves. The mothers in Bama whose sons were slaughtered before their eyes do not worry whether Boko Haram is defeated by a Christian or Muslim coalition. The hundreds of thousands in IDP camps are concerned simply about when they can safely return to their homes and resume their normal lives. For these ones most hard hit by the Boko Haram terrorists, whether the help they so desperately need comes from the United States of America or from Saudi Arabia does not matter.
One of the main thrusts of President Buhari’s campaign was the war on terror. He promised that his administration would bring an end to Boko Haram, and set about doing just that as soon as he was elected, travelling to different countries and meeting with various heads of state to discuss the way forward on the issue. At the time, no Nigerian worried that President Buhari was seeking help from the West. No one worried about the ideology of those willing and able to help our country to defeat terror. Nigerians were simply united with their President in a determination to bring Boko Haram to an end so that our brothers and sisters in the northeast can resume their normal lives.
It is on account of these people and their desperate situation, and on the basis of national interest only, that President Buhari accepted the offer, with both hands, of assistance from G7 countries at the commencement of his administration. Religion was not a consideration then. It is also not a consideration now that he has made the decision to embrace help in fighting terror from the Middle-East. The safety of Nigerians and the total annihilation of Boko Haram is of more importance than the unfounded worries of Nigeria’s so-called Islamisation.
Those efforts by President Buhari led to several gains, including the technical defeat of Boko Haram by the end of 2015 as he had promised during the election campaigns. Once again, our Commander-in-Chief has sought help where he believes our country will benefit and the religious affiliation or ideology of our benefactors should not be the paramount consideration. It is simply one of those cases where the enemies of our enemy has become our enemy. The enemy of terrorists all around the globe is our friend.
The fears that our country’s membership in this coalition will draw Islamic State, ISIS’s attention to Nigeria are too late. As the President has repeatedly maintained, it is Boko Haram that proclaimed allegiance to ISIS, thereby dragging us into the global terrorism network. By pledging allegiance to ISIS, the terrorists already drew the international terror group’s attention to this part of the world. ISIS proudly and openly accepted this proclamation of allegiance. They have their sights set on us already.
Terrorism is heathen and knows no religion. It can only be defeated by the unity of entire humanity. Criticism of the membership of this alliance only shows our disarray and a lack of unity against terror and will only make the terrorists happy. The fears of so-called Islamisation are strange and unfounded, and meant only to feed the fear and suspicions existing among Nigerians.
With a precedent as shown above, it will be unkind and uncharitable of anyone to accuse President Buhari of executing deception. In an unusually harsh commentary, this country's most respected newspaper The Punch on Sunday succeeded in exactly doing this. Read this:
"The presidency’s doublespeak on Nigeria’s membership of the Saudi Arabia-led anti-terror Islamic coalition is unfortunate in the extreme. In the beginning, an aide to the president on media and publicity issued a statement to the effect that the president had declined Nigeria’s membership of the coalition and therefore did not attend its meeting while on a diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia.
But barely two weeks after, President Muhammadu Buhari himself confirmed Nigeria’s membership of the coalition in an interview with a foreign television station, Al- Jazeera. Buhari, who never tabled such a sensitive matter before the National Assembly, said there are terrorists in Nigeria who have claimed to be Muslims. So, according to the him, “We are part of it because we have got terrorists in Nigeria who claim that they are Islamic. So, if there is an Islamic coalition to fight terrorism, Nigeria will be part of it because we are casualties of Islamic terrorism.
"This explanation is simplistic, to say the least and does not do any good to expected political astuteness of President Buhari. In the main, membership of any such coalition is unacceptable for it offends the sensibilities of Nigerians in their diverse inclinations and should be reversed."
Sensibilities offended? Can anyone face the more than two million unhoused, mostly Muslim refugees displaced by terror now being fed, almost exclusively by Christian charities that it is offensive them, or that it matters to them who, between Christians and Muslims is supplying the next meal? The one who raised a tent over their heads?
Let me say that the presidential aide in question is no other than myself. Although I write statements emanating from the Presidency, I don't choose what headline writers will use to caption those stories.
To that extent, it is untrue of anyone to say the President had ab initio rejected a membership of the coalition against terror.
What the President said, to paraphrase him, was that "we may not be with you, but we will support you in every possible way we can." This does not presuppose rejection. Even if it was one, nothing says that a government cannot move or adjust its position based on new, superior facts as we individuals do in our daily lives.
That some of the criticism against the President is coming from opposition Senators is even more absurd, showing a lack of judgement and discrimination- or even worse.
It holds up a mirror to the PDP's cluelessness and total absence of strategy to defeat Boko Haram terrorism. The party's projection of itself as better than the APC in this regard is hobbled by their own record of indecision and serial abdication on Chibok girls as disclosed by Ambassador Packock and greed, corruption and a general incapacity to drive the anti terror war.
A set of politicians who failed to confront or attack terrorism while in power have no right to challenge President Buhari's hounding of them. To global acclaim. Trivia smells. There is a need for a new fragrance in the air.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan Congratulates the people of Benin Republic on the peaceful conduct of their President election
"Having followed the elections in the Republic of Benin very closely, I am very impressed with the orderly manner with which the administration of President Boni Yayi conducted those polls. They were adjudged peaceful, credible and transparent by local and international observers and President Yayi deserves commendation for providing the leadership that led to this outcome.
I also congratulate the people of the Republic of Benin for their role in the election and for showing the world that the Republic of Benin and its citizens have come of age in the practice of democracy.
I especially wish to appreciate the incumbent Prime Minister of the Republic of Benin, Mr. Lionel Zinsou, who was a candidate for President, for his exemplary conduct of conceding defeat and congratulating the choice of the people, Mr. Patrice Talon, on his victory at the polls. Such a gesture by Prime Minister Zinsou is rare and should be applauded by all statesmen as the highest display of patriotism and maturity.
Finally, I congratulate Mr. Patrice Talon on his victory and wish him a successful and peaceful tenure after his swearing in even as I urge that there should be no victor or vanquished in this process. All the Beninoise people are winners and have cause to be proud of their nation. GEJ.'

NO ARMY IS STRONGER THAN THE PEOPLE - Governor Wike
Governor Wike said that despite the actions of the military and INEC, President Muhammadu Buhari stands absolved because he believes in credible elections of one man, one vote.
Addressing party stakeholders and party election agents at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Governor Wike thanked the people of the state, leaders and party agents for standing firm in the face of military intimidation during the rerun elections.
He said: "Amaechi plot to rig the rerun elections was for him to rubbish the Supreme Court Judgement. He came back to the state noisily, but left quietly and shamefully.
" No Army is stronger than the people. No police is stronger than our people. How many times will they cancel elections for the APC. Amaechi is not on ground in Rivers State ".
The governor said that the President was never involved in partisanship as far as the rerun elections were concerned.
He said : "Those who were overzealous during the rerun elections did so without the knowledge of the president. "
The governor noted that Minister of Transportation is in Abuja for the manipulating INEC to act beyond its powers by cancelling already collated and declared results. He urged INEC not to cause crisis by being involved in illegality.
In his remarks, Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus berated Minister of Transportation for illegally using the military to intimidate the Rivers people.
Former Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo assured the governor that Rivers people will always support him to lead the state forward
Former Deputy Governor, Engineer Tele Ikuru and Former Deputy Speaker, Austin Opara commended the governor for providing leadership to rescue the state from forces of oppression.
The event attracted PDP leaders and Party agents from all the wards of the state.

Keynote address by President Buhari as he Declares Open National Economic Council Retreat
MUHAMMADU BUHARI
AT THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC COUNCIL RETREAT ON THE ECONOMY HELD AT THE STATE HOUSE CONFERENCE CENTRE, PRESIDENTIAL VILLA, ABUJA,
MONDAY 21ST, MARCH 2016
Protocols:
I am delighted to have the opportunity to address this distinguished and all-important retreat on the Nigerian economy. The purpose of this retreat as outlined in the Retreat Concept Notes is to generate immediate, medium and long-term viable policy solutions to the economic challenges facing us at both the Federal and State levels.
2. From information at my disposal, if we aggregate public views from the grassroots, city dwellers, the economic managers, consumer groups, the Unions and other stakeholders of the economy, there is near unanimity about the ills of our economy. But naturally, there are divergent views about solutions.
3. I am going to throw at this gathering some random policy options filtered from across the spectrum of our stakeholders on four (4) selected sectors of our economy.
These are:
Γ Agriculture
Γ Power
Γ Manufacturing
Γ Housing
4. I have not touched Education, Science and Technology pointedly because these related subjects require a whole retreat by themselves.
5. Distinguished Ladies and gentlemen, these suggestions I am putting forward to you are by no means directives but a contribution to your discourse.
AGRICULTURE
6. On Agriculture today, both the peasant and the mechanized farmers agree with the general public that food production and self-sufficiency require urgent government action. For too long government policies on agriculture have been half-hearted, suffering from inconsistencies and discontinuities.
Yet our real wealth is in farming, livestock, hatcheries, fishery, horticulture and forestry.
7. From the information available to me the issues worrying the public today are:
· Rising food prices, such as maize, corn, rice and gari.
· Lack of visible impact of government presence on agriculture.
· Lack of agricultural inputs at affordable prices. Cost of fertilizers, pesticide and labour compound the problems of farming. Extension services are virtually absent in several states.
· Imports of subsidized food products such as rice and poultry discourage the growth of domestic agriculture.
· Wastage of locally grown foods, notably fruit and vegetables which go bad due to lack of even moderate scale agro-processing factories and lack of feeder roads.
8. These problems I have enumerated are by no means exhaustive and some of the solutions I am putting forward are not necessarily the final word on our agricultural reform objectives:
· First, we need to carry the public with us for new initiatives. Accordingly the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the States should convene early meetings of stakeholders and identify issues with a view to addressing them.
· Inform the public in all print and electronic media on government efforts to increase local food production to dampen escalating food prices.
· Banks should be leaned upon to substantially increase their lending to the agricultural sector. Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should bear part of the risk of such loans as a matter of national policy.
· States should increase their financial support through community groups. The appropriate approach should be through leaders of community groups such as farmers cooperatives.
· Provision of feeder roads by state governments to enable more effective evacuation of produce to markets and processing factories.
9. When I was a schoolboy in the 1950’s the country produced one million tons of groundnuts in two successive years. The country’s main foreign exchange earners were groundnut, cotton, cocoa, palm kernel, rubber and all agro/forest resources.
10. Regional Banks and Development Corporations in all the three regions were financed from farm surpluses. In other words, our capital formation rode on the backs of our farmers. Why was farming so successful 60 years ago? The answers are simple:
· Access to small scale credits
· Inputs (fertilizers, herbicides etc)
· Extension services.
11. Now we have better tools, better agricultural science and technology, and greater ability to process. With determination we can succeed.
POWER
12. Nigerians’ favourite talking point and butt of jokes is the power situation in our country. But, ladies and gentlemen, it is no longer a laughing matter. We must and by the grace of God we will put things right. In the three years left for this administration we have given ourselves the target of ten thousand megawatts distributable power. In 2016 alone, we intend to add two thousand megawatts to the national grid.
13. This sector has been privatized but has yet to show any improvement in the quality of service. Common public complaints are:
• Constant power cuts destroying economic activity and affecting quality of life.
• High electricity bills despite power cuts.
• Low supply of gas to power plants due to vandalization by terrorists.
• Obsolete power distribution equipment such as transformers.
• Power fluctuations, which damage manufacturing equipment and household appliances.
• Low voltage which cannot run industrial machinery.
14. These are some of the problems, which defied successive governments. In our determination to CHANGE we must and will, insha Allah, put a stop to power shortages. Key points to look at here are:
· Privatization. We are facing the classic dilemma of privatization: Public interest Vs Profit Motive. Having started, we must complete the process. But National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the regulatory authority, has a vital job to ensure consumers get value for money and over-all public interest is safe-guarded.
· Government to fast-track completion of pipelines from Gas points to power stations and provide more security to protect gas and oil pipelines.
· Power companies should be encouraged to replace obsolete equipment and improve the quality of service and technicians.
MANUFACTURING
15. It grieves me that so many manufacturing industries in the country today are groaning and frustrated because of lack of foreign exchange to import raw materials and spare parts.
Painful though this is, I believe it is a temporary phase which we shall try to overcome but there are deeper, more structural problems bedeviling local industries which this Retreat should identify short and long-term answers to. Chief among these problems are:
· Inadequate infrastructure:
Power
Roads
Security
leading to increase in costs of making Made-in Nigeria goods pricier than imports
· High Cost of Borrowing Money:
Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has been hammering on the fact that high lending rates make manufacturing unviable and unprofitable.
· Lack of Long Term Funding:
The Nigerian Capital Market has not completely recovered from the 2008 worldwide crisis. Banks’ funding sources are short-term in nature due to sources of the liabilities.
· Under-developed Science and Technology Research: As with Agriculture, Nigeria’s industries are in the main outmoded and industrial practices far behind those in advanced countries.
· Unions:
We need to protect our workers from exploitation, but unions must cooperate with entrepreneurs to substantially improve productivity and quality of products if we are to move forward.
· Smuggling:
Need I say more?
16. Recommended Actions on industries are:
· The infrastructure Development Fund should be fast-tracked to unlock resources so that infrastructural deficiencies can be addressed.
· There should be more fiscal incentives for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which prove themselves capable of manufacturing quality products good enough for export.
· Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should create more incentives and ease credit terms for lending to manufacturers.
· A fresh campaign to patronize Made-in-Nigeria goods should be launched. Example: all uniforms in government-sponsored institutions should be sourced from local factories.
HOUSING
17. Some estimates put Nigeria’s housing deficit at about sixteen million units. In our successful campaign to win the general elections last year our party, the APC, promised to build a million housing units a year. This will turn out to be a very tall order unless:
· The Federal Government builds two hundred and fifty thousand units. The 22 APC States together manage another two hundred and fifty thousand units.
· We invite foreign investors together with local domiciled big construction companies to enter into commercial housing building to pick up the rest.
· The most frequent public concerns brought to my attention are three-pronged:
1. Severe shortage of housing
2. High rents
3. Unaffordable prices for prospective buyers especially middle and low-income earners.
· In addition, red tape, corruption and plain public service inefficiency lead to long delays in obtaining ownership of title documents.
· Again, there are no long term funding sources for mortgage purposes.
18. These hurdles are by no means easy to scale, but we must find solutions to the housing deficit. This Retreat might start by looking at the laws.
· Laws
The relevant laws should be reviewed to make the process of acquiring statutory right of occupancy shorter, less cumbersome and less costly. Court procedures for mortgages cases should make enforcement more efficient. Ministries of Works and Housing should upgrade their computerization of title registration system for greater efficiency.
· Mortgage Institutions. Achieving affordable housing for all Nigerians will require the development of strong and enduring mortgage institutions with transparent processes and procedures.
· Mortgage Re-financing Company. This institution when fully operational should ensure adequate support for mortgage financing.
HEALTHCARE
19. Last of the four areas that time will allow me to say a few words, but by no means the least, is healthcare. In my inauguration speech last May, I remarked that the whole field of Medicare in our country needed government attention. Dirty hospitals! (Few sights are more upsetting than a dirty hospital), inadequate equipment, poorly trained nursing staff, overcrowding. The litany of shortcomings is almost endless.
20. Sound health system is part of the prerequisites for economic development. Nigerians travel abroad, spending an estimated One Billion US Dollars annually to get medical treatment. Despite huge oil revenues the nation’s health sector remains undeveloped.
21. In attacking the challenges of this sector we could start with
· More funding for health centres to improve service delivery. World Bank and World Health Organization (WHO) could be persuaded to increase their assistance.
· Strengthening public health propaganda in primary prevention:
Γ Environmental sanitation
Γ Stop smoking
Γ Better dieting
Γ Exercising
And secondary prevention:
Screening and early diagnosis of diseases
· NAFDAC to intensify efforts on reducing or stopping circulation of fake drugs in Nigeria.
· Ministry of Health should work closely with the Nigerian Medical Association to ensure that unqualified people are not allowed to practice.
22. Finally I urge participants to learn from the array of experts and resource persons and learn from the shared experiences and perspectives to understand how other countries have transformed their economies and livelihoods of their people for the better. It is also the government’s expectation that this Retreat will highlight the respective roles and responsibilities of each tier of government in adopting and implementing agreed policy initiatives.
23. I hope this Retreat will come up with practical, viable solutions and recommendations as we chart a course for our nation in this turbulent domestic and international economic environment.
Thank you.

INEC issues statement on suspension of Rivers rerun elections announcement
Pursuant to the Orders of the Court of Appeal, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) conducted elections into various seats in both the National and the Rivers State House of Assembly yesterday, the 19th of March, 2016.
Rather unfortunately, some of these elections witnessed the disruption of the process, including the barricading of some of the INEC Local Government offices and Registration Area Centres(RACs) used for the distribution of Electoral materials which led to the late commencement of the exercise in some places and consequently, its smooth take off.
Of more serious concern was the level of threats, violence and intimidation of election officials and voters by well armed thugs and miscreants allegedly acting on behalf of some politicians, which marred the elections in some areas. There were reports of numerous attacks resulting in fatalities, kidnappings, ballot snatching, diversion of officials and materials, amongst others, which necessitated its suspension in 8 Local Government Areas.
Regrettably, such deviant behaviour has continued today. Several permanent and ad hoc staff engaged have been attacked, again resulting in fatalities, while some have been forcibly abducted and taken to presently unknown destinations.
Under such difficult circumstance, the Returning Officers were only able to collate and declare results in 1 Federal and 9 State constituencies where the disruption and malpractices were not so widespread.
Having reviewed the situation, the Commission is compelled to suspend all further action concerning the exercise in all the other constituencies in the State pending the receipt of a comprehensive report from its Field Officials and Monitors. For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted that the suspension does not affect the constituencies where the exercise has been completed and the results declared by the Returning Officers.

In This Same Country By Reuben Abati
The angst of this young generation is made worse when they are told that Nigeria was not always like this. In their late 20s to thirties, these children have only known that Nigeria where fuel scarcity is a fact of daily life, and part of the mechanism of survival is to know how to draw fuel with your mouth, or negotiate black market purchase of fuel, while lugging jerry cans, either at the fuel station or a roadside corner where you cannot be sure of the quality of fuel- all of that in a country that is the world’s sixth largest producer of crude oil. These children have only known a country where the roads are bad, services are sub-standard, people are mean, criminality is rife, and electricity is available once in a blue moon.
What they know is a country where the pastors and malams are better known for lying, swearing, cheating, calling the name of God in vain. In their Nigeria, public and private officials are lazy, and unproductive, they just want to reap, and they have sucked the country so dry, her glands are wasted, flat, going South and no more presentable, the balloon has suffered a blow out, even the blind can see that this is so. These angry children are no longer proud of the green passport; because the Constitution allows dual citizenship, they’d rather grab the citizenship of another country, and remain linked to Nigeria only by blood, and that is the case because they have parents who would not want them to de-link completely, but if they don’t, their own children and their own children after them, are already being lost to countries where things work, where the basic necessities of life are taken for granted and where the future is not a distant, unknown, and impossible destination.
The anger and the nonchalance of this generation of Nigerians is the pain and the agony of an older generation that knew a different country before all things went kaput and Nigeria became a byword for the unhinged, the dark, the ugly and the regrettable. Our generation and the generation before us knew a different country. And because that is so, memory is an affliction, a source of torment, nostalgia and regret, more so as that distant past now seems so unattainable not because distance often makes the past look better, but because in Nigeria, the past is sorrily idyllic. Those who lived in that other country and are still alive could not have forgotten so soon, because to forget something that important is to self-deny, it is to pretend, it is to abuse, it is in all, an act of pitiable abnegation.
How could we have forgotten? How can anyone possibly forget? That this was once a country where Nigerians felt at home in virtually any part of the country. Igbos lived peacefully in the North, and Fulani herdsmen were at peace with other Nigerians, and there was no issue with the planting of yams or the grazing of cattle. In this same country, Southerners lived for decades in the North, acquired property and spoke the language of their hosts. We grew up knowing Baba Kaduna, Daddy Kano, Mama Kafanchan, Uncle Porta, just as persons from the East and the South South contested for elective positions in the West and won. There was a civil war yes, and things began to change but even after the war, it was never this bad. Nigerians from the South still went on national assignment in the North, Christians and Muslims tried to live together in peace, but today, things have fallen apart.
There is no open civil war, but this country is at war on all fronts, the worst fronts being the ethnic, the religious and the political, and these post-civil war children just can’t understand why the generations of their fathers and grandmothers can’t run an efficient country. They have been taught in school that every nation has problems, but leadership is about managing those problems and building a happy nation. They hear about the big names of Nigerian history, the statesmen who fought for independence, the Amazons who defended the place of women in national decision making processes, the accomplished scientists, the literati and cultural workers, but the historical figures who have made the biggest impression on them are the ones who ruined the nation with their acts of omission and commission.
In this same country, the Naira used to be at par with the pound and was for many years stronger than the dollar. So strong was the Naira that many Nigerians, including the lower middle class could afford to travel to London on Friday evening, attend a party in Londonon Saturday, attend church service on Sunday, check out one or two mistresses in paid-for flats in different parts of London, and return to Nigeria early enough on Monday morning to be able to go to work. All that was no big deal. Everyone in London knew the Nigerians. They were the biggest spenders and they threw the best parties. There was Nigeria Airways; owned and operated by the Nigerian government and it was one of the best airlines in Africa. Its pilots were rated among the best in the world. Its safety record was superb. And it was affordable. It was the pride of the nation. Within the country, Nigeria Airways was also efficient. A trip from Lagos to Calabar in those days was just N44! Students enjoyed rebates too.
In this same country, once upon a time, public transportation was impressive. In Lagos for example, the public transportation system was almost exactly a version of what they have in London. This may sound like something being made up to the younger generation, but it is nothing but the truth. The railway system worked too, and one of the most prestigious jobs was to be a railway staff. That same Nigerian Railway Corporation that is now a parody of its former self, used to link up the entire country and it helped to build cities and villages, as the various major train stations became commercial centres. Today, railway transportation looks like something we are trying to reinvent.
Once upon a time in this same country, those who sent their children abroad did so majorly out of choice, not necessity, because Nigerian schools were among the best in the continent and the world. Teachers from different parts of the world, the best and the brightest, sought employment in Nigerian schools. The Naira was strong, investors -both commercial and intellectual - trooped to this country in droves and they enriched us in many ways. The schools were well-equipped; they attracted students and teachers based on their reputation.
Parents sent their own children to their alma mater out of loyalty, and regard for tradition. That pattern of grandfather, father and son attending the same secondary school seems to have ended; the public schools in Nigeria have failed, the missionary schools of old have been destroyed by hostile government take-over, back in the hands of the missions, the destruction is yet to be fully corrected. The younger generation reflects on all this: mostly products of private schools, they can’t understand why a country that still prides itself as the giant of Africa cannot run a decent education system or provide jobs for the products of its school system.
In this same county, we used to have industrial estates. In Lagos, Apapa, Ikeja and Isolo were industrial estates. In Kaduna, Jos, and Enugu, manufacturing companies created jobs and wealth. We had uncles and aunties who used to do shifts in many factories and this country produced things: from refrigerators to bulbs to vehicles to metals to books, to textiles to shoes. Sad: many of those factories have become churches! In those days, if you went into a bookshop, you could not miss the mint-fresh smell of the books on display. I miss that smell. There are fewer bookstores today and the books no longer smell the same, because by the time they are imported and passed through dirty containers and the hands of thieving handlers, the books lose their soul.
Once upon a time in this same country, there was so much hope about tomorrow. Salaries were paid as and when due. State governments offered students bursaries and scholarships. School was attractive because the teachers were dedicated and they were smart. At the university level, the government provided subsidized tuition and feeding; the rooms were kept clean by staff, the libraries were well-stocked; there was light and water and town-gown relationship was just fine. In the larger society, the present regime of no water, no fuel, no electricity was unheard of. You may have heard of the British standard, there was in fact at a time, the Nigerian standard, and this was the standard that other Africans looked up to. This same country dominated the continent, morally, intellectually and culturally. Financially too: so rich was Nigeria that a former Head of State reportedly boasted that our problem was not money but how to spend it!
But, sorry, we lost it all. And the rains began to beat us. The victims are the younger ones who have not known any other country but this new one. The danger is: they may never know how to make a difference when they inherit this poisoned chalice called Nigeria.

Obasanjo remains the Apex leader of PDP in the Southeast
"Senator Buruji Kashamu is NOT the leader of the PDP in the southwest. He is not even the leader of the party in Ogun state. He leads an NGO called Omo Ilu which engages in empowerment programs in the state, mainly in the Ogun East Senatorial district.
Baba Obasanjo still remains the undisputed and authentic leader of the PDP in the SouthWest. The fact that he tore his membership card is not tantamount to resignation from the party. An action he has not undertaken to date.
Tearing of the membership card though a very negative action is undoubtedly a knee-jerk reaction to certain unacceptable or intolerable happenings withing the party which can and will be redressed.
In his temporary absence, we have a colligate or confederal leadership of eminent and distinguished elders including chief bode George, chief Ogunlewe, Aare Jubril Martins Kuye, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, chief mrs Apampa, dr lekan Balogun, Baba Richard Akinjide, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, chief Ebenezer BABATOPE, Shuabu Oyedokun, iyiola Omisore, prof Adeniran, gov Fayose, gov Mimiko, senator bode Olajumoke amongst others.
We are a proud and a foremost race in Nigeria. We have enviable political antecedents and capable of presenting nationally credible and acceptable leadership at any and all time."
Incredible! Visiting World Muslim League scribe looses handset to Abuja thieves
Security agencies which are said to be hugely embarrassed by the development, are currently probing the alleged security breach which led to the theft. Abdul himself, is said to be worried by the incident. He had been accorded the honour of leading the Jumat prayer at the National Mosque on Friday.
A heavy security ring was therefore formed around him and his entourage by the relevant agencies. After the Jumat service, many dignitaries and worshipers tried to move closer to him, which led to the alleged security breach. He later discovered that his handset had been stolen.
While speaking with The Nation, a top source said: “This incident created an embarrassment for the cleric, diplomats and most of the dignitaries that accompanied him to the service. Abdul was shocked and embarrassed. No one could explain how it happened.” Credit :The Nation

Former SSG to Imo State Government Sir Jude Ejiogu thanks his boss as he bows out
"THANKS TO OUR GOVERNOR, OWELLE ROCHAS ANAYO OKOROCHA AND NDI IMO IN GENERAL
Today, I stepped aside as Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI) with a clean and undented image. To be sincere to you all, I will greatly thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle (Dr) Rochas Anayochukwu Okorocha (OON), the Senior Advocate of the Masses for having given me the opportunity to serve the state in particular and the good people of Imo State at large in various sensitive positions in the rescue mission government since 2011.
I started with the rescue mission government as Adviser on Internally Generated Revenue, to Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue. From there, His Excellency appointed me Chairman, Local Government Service Commission respectively.
Following my sterling qualities and commitment to duty, our amiable Governor appointed me the Chief of Staff, Government House, after which barely three months of the appointment, my name was announced as Commissioner for Special Duties on top of the position of Chief of Staff.
However, after the 2015 Governorship election which His Excellency meritoriously won, I was assigned the position of Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI) which today, I am leaving as a happy person with my head held high.
Convincingly, I know that the Governor's decision to relieve me of my position was not as a result of failure, incompetence, mediocrity or negligence of duty on my part, but it was a sound desire to give another Imolite the privilege to contribute his or her quota aimed at developing our dear state, the Eastern Heartland.
On the other hand, I want to sincerely thank the good people of Imo State who have over the years had faith in me and supported me in so many ways, especially, those who prayed for my success which today, has manifested.
I will also not forget to thank my wife, children, family and Aides at large who have had to endure my absence most times when I would be weighted down by matters of state, which I executed with utmost commitment and devotion.
In all, I remain thankful to Almighty God who in His infinite mercies have planned today for me. I have faith that He has plans of future elevations in my life through which I can continue to touch the lives of the good people of Imo State positively in many ways.
There is no doubt that my greatest joy has been to serve the people of Imo State to the best of my abilities, and for His Excellency, the Governor to have given me such opportunity to showcase my experience and expertise is indeed priceless.
May the good Lord bless you all for your prayers and support which made me a happy man today.
Sir Jude Ejiogu
