Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that no Army or police can be stronger than the people, saying that the people of the state stood their ground for their voice to be heard during the rerun legislative elections.
Governor Wike said that despite the actions of the military and INEC, President Muhammadu Buhari stands absolved because he believes in credible elections of one man, one vote.
Addressing party stakeholders and party election agents at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Governor Wike thanked the people of the state, leaders and party agents for standing firm in the face of military intimidation during the rerun elections.
He said: "Amaechi plot to rig the rerun elections was for him to rubbish the Supreme Court Judgement. He came back to the state noisily, but left quietly and shamefully.
" No Army is stronger than the people. No police is stronger than our people. How many times will they cancel elections for the APC. Amaechi is not on ground in Rivers State ".
The governor said that the President was never involved in partisanship as far as the rerun elections were concerned.
He said : "Those who were overzealous during the rerun elections did so without the knowledge of the president. "
The governor noted that Minister of Transportation is in Abuja for the manipulating INEC to act beyond its powers by cancelling already collated and declared results. He urged INEC not to cause crisis by being involved in illegality.
In his remarks, Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus berated Minister of Transportation for illegally using the military to intimidate the Rivers people.
Former Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo assured the governor that Rivers people will always support him to lead the state forward
Former Deputy Governor, Engineer Tele Ikuru and Former Deputy Speaker, Austin Opara commended the governor for providing leadership to rescue the state from forces of oppression.
The event attracted PDP leaders and Party agents from all the wards of the state.
