The most decorated captain of Chelsea football club will be exiting from Stamford Bridge at the end of this season. The 35 years old disclosed this when the news broke and to confirm his plans following plans by his club not to offer him new contract.Read his statements below he made after their 5-1 FA Cup victory over MK Dons.,
"To be honest, I was in last week before the Arsenal game and it’s not going to be extended. It’s my last run in the FA Cup so I want to make it a good one,"
"It’s a big season for me and I want to push on - not just in this competition but in the Premier League as well. I knew before the Arsenal game so mentally I’ve kind of accepted it. We just have to move on.
"They said that when the new manager comes in, things might change. It’s a no at the minute. I needed to know now like I have done every January and sometimes it takes a couple of months to get done.
"Unfortunately it was a no. It’s not going to be a fairytale ending, I’m not going to retire at Chelsea. It’s going to be elsewhere, which it took me a couple of days to get over.
"But like I say, I knew before the Arsenal game and my performance isn’t going to change - the way I train, what I give for the club. I want to give everything and finish on a high, on 100 per cent good terms with the club.
"We spoke about my legacy and coming back to the club when I finish. The most important thing now is to get us up the league.
"I didn’t feel as though I was playing great in the first four or five games of the season, like everyone in the team, and the performances showed that. But since then myself and everyone else has picked up back to where we are. All I can do is keep my head down and plug on because it’ll be my last year at the club.
"The club will move on. No player is ever bigger than the club. Ideally I would have loved to stay, but the club’s moving in a different direction. No doubt they’ll sign one or two great centre-backs.
"I want to come back as a Chelsea supporter in years to come with my kids and see the team doing great. Unfortunately that’s not going to be with me, but I want to see the team do well. It’s going to be my last year and I want to go out at the top.
"I couldn’t play for another Premier League club, I couldn’t do that to the Chelsea fans. It will be elsewhere for sure. I don’t know where and I leave that to the people in charge. It certainly won’t be in the Premier League.
"My agent made the call like we do every January. He got told over the phone and I called to set up a meeting the following day. The club immediately set that up, which was great of them to do that. I wanted to hear it face to face. They told me.
"I feel as though I’m in great nick, I’m playing great and I’ve got a couple of years to go. It’ll just be elsewhere."

President Buhari Urges North-East Residents to be more Vigilant,Own the war against Terror
Press statement from the State house.
President Muhammadu Buhari Sunday in Abuja called on all Nigerians, especially those that are resident in areas previously ravaged by terrorists, to be more vigilant and ready to work with security operatives in ending the war against insurgency.
Reacting to the spate of suicide bombings in Chibok market, Dolari Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP) camp in Borno State and the Gombi market in Adamawa State, President Buhari said the insurgents had suffered immensely from the sustained bombardments of their camps and hide outs by the Nigerian military and had resorted to using desperate measures to gain cheap media attention.
"I urge all citizens wherever they live to own the war against terror and to be part of the fight because it is the only way we can finish the remaining work that needs to be done to make our country safe again," the President said.
President Buhari said the terrorists had been rendered weak, confused and homeless after repeated bombings and ravaging of their camps and hide outs by the military, forcing them to find their way back into the society to wreak havoc, like the case of the Dolari IDP.
"Having lost the war, they are seeking ways and means to gradually find their way back into society. They are not returning to contribute but to cause more havoc. They are so desperate to embarrass the government and the people that they have no qualms attacking isolated communities and markets," he added.
The President noted that the materials for the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were locally sourced by the insurgents, urging Nigerians to be more circumspect and report suspicious purchases and movements of unusual components in any part of the country, especially the North East.
President Buhari extended his condolences to all the people of Chibok, Gombi and Dolari who lost loved ones in the recent attacks and prayed that the Almighty God will comfort them and grant the injured persons quick recovery.

Father Mbaka transferred to another Parish. Why?
Popular Catholic priest and the spiritual director of the Adoration ministries Enugu Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka has been transferred from Christ The King Parish in Enugu Our Lady Parish, Umuchigbo, Njinike, still in Enugu but very far from his present parish.
The happy priest arrived his new parish in the company of his former parishioners and well wishers who wept uncontrollably for the transfer of their spiritual director.
His transfer from his former parish is termed a witch hunt following his recent association with the ruling party but as a devout christian and practicing catholic Reverend father he must respect the order from above.
According to the the Nation newspaper,
He told the crowd “I know we are going to suffer between now and a few months to come. I am going to suffer and suffer. I know that.
“I’m going to suffer because I have no place to put my head. I am going to suffer because I have no place to keep the Adoration Ministry’s assets.
“I know I’m going to suffer. Fortunately, it is going to happen in the month of lent. So, I am going to use my exit here as a Lenten observance but Jesus said it all in John 16:20 to his apostles that you will be sorrowful and the world will be rejoicing but very soon I will turn your sorrow to joy.
“But for now I know you are going to suffer. The Adoration Ministry is passing through suffering right now even though I’ve accepted that is the will of God. Is the will of God through suffering? It is a mega suffering
“The quantum of the assets of the Adoration Ministry is the only thing I am bothered about for now.
“Where am I going to keep them? I am going to stay in one small room that has only one small bed, one small table, little toilet and bathroom. So where am I going to keep all the adoration assets?
“My clothing and books I can keep in the car or somebody’s house but where will I keep these assets that I have given to the Catholic church of Enugu?
“But I say may God take the glory and whoever that has offended me, I have forgiven.
“I won’t fight anybody or even dream of battling anybody. If anybody allows the devil to use him, the same that advised you to make a mistake will laugh at you when you cry over the error. The baby is born, there is no going back.
“We are moving out. We have been doing it and we will do it again. Moses was going out with a rod in his hand, Mbaka is moving out with his Bible and this nobody can take away from me.”
“I am giving God the glory and I welcome the church’s choice and action with absolute acceptance and obedience.
“So there is no negation to what God has approved and what the church suggested. Nobody should see me as a recalcitrant priest. I am not.
“I have taken an oath of obedience and I stand on it. I pray God to bless all of you who in one way or the other have supported the work of God here and those who have sincerely allowed God to use him or her for the work we did here all these years.
“God will bless the people of God here and reward you according to your labour. The parish is not going to collapse; the church will continue to grow.”
“God has planned a future and hope out of disaster and where I am going. He will go before me to level mountains.
“The Bible says that He will deliver me from all evil; He will keep my going out and coming in both now and forever… I am praying that God will keep his church and my fellow adorers so that our journey to Umuchigbo will be a journeyof Israelites out of Egypt.
“Some of them were grumbling leaving Egyptian soil because they were having the phobia for the unknown but
I am telling you people as a courageous leader, do not be afraid.
“We are moving and in not distant time, you people are going to smile.”

Nyesom Wike,Voted by the people,Ordained by God,Confirmed by the Supreme Court - Simeon Nwakaudu
An article written by Simeon Nwakaudu, the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic Media describing Governor Wike's victory at the Supreme court as an act of man supported by God.Enjoy below,
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is a product of the most significant trinity in our political history. He was voted by the people, ordained by God and confirmed by the Supreme Court. He is a man of destiny, set apart by God to deliver Rivers State from an evil power centre, only greedy for the resources of the state without any commitment to the welfare of the people.
That Governor Wike is the most popular politician and statesman from Rivers State is no longer in doubt. Even his worst enemies agree that he has a link with the people, who love him for his pro-people politics and programmes.
The confirmation of Governor Wike’s election has completed a renowned trinity of sorts in the face of unnecessary and baseless propaganda engineered by the Rivers State APC, using ill-gotten funds acquired from the state coffers.
These unpopular politicians used the media to create the impression that the governorship election was marred by violence and irregularities. In Court, they tendered no evidence to prove their outlandish allegations.
For a political party that claimed that the governorship election did not hold in the state, it was shocking that the Rivers State APC called only three voters to prove that elections were marred by irregularities in 4442 polling units spread across 23 LGAS. Of these three voters, only one claimed he was disenfranchised. The Supreme Court has been consistent in insisting that you can only prove electoral fraud on a polling unit by polling unit basis. Proving electoral fraud is not an issue of propaganda and political blackmail.
The Supreme Court Seven-Man Panel headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmood Mohammed with Justices Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed, Kumai Bayang Aka'ahs, Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-kun, Sylvester Ngbuta , John Inyang Okoro and Amiru Sanusi as co-panelists enthroned the Supremacy of Law over the conflicting opinions of the lower courts.
Apart from this obvious lacuna in its case, the Rivers State APC all through relied on the card reader report which only reflected accreditation via card reader without mentioning accreditation via the manual process as recognised by the Electoral Act. Expectedly, this failed them as the Supreme Court had on several occasions made its position known on the legal process of accreditation recognised by law.
It was shocking that the Rivers APC thought it could rubbish the mandate of the Rivers people by relying on documentary hearsay as exemplified by the report by the INEC staff it directly subpoenaed who visited a few local government areas, but reported on the whole election, though he was never a direct participant in the conduct of the election at the polling station.
Aside the media drama sponsored by the Rivers APC, there was nothing before any of the courts to prove the stories they published about the election.
There is a need to recall that the Court of Appeal struck out over 100 paragraphs of the Rivers State APC petition wherein the party made wild allegations against named and unnamed security personnel who participated in the election. Despite this fatal blow to the petition, the Tribunal and the same Appeal Court relied on these security agents to reach their perverse judgments . These security agents had in open court admitted that they were not participants at the respective polling units and therefore only heard their testimonies from other interested parties.
Nigerians will further recall that at the middle of the sitting of the tribunal for inexplicable reasons the first chairman, Justice Pindiga was removed and replaced with Justice Suleiman Ambrosa. Justice Ambrosa went ahead to deliver rulings for applications that he did not have the privilege of hearing. He merely fulfilled all righteousness, but failed to do justice according to the law.
The Supreme Court has reinstated the confidence of Nigerians in the Judicial process by interpreting the law in line with the tenets governing the elections. They have confirmed what all the people of Rivers State knew as far back as April , 2015 when INEC declared Governor Wike the winner of the Rivers State Governorship election.
There has never been APC in Rivers State. Those who pretend to be APC leaders are not on ground in Rivers State. They are more at home in Lagos and Abuja, where their media associates build political castles in the air for them.
While Governor Wike campaigned in all the wards of Rivers State before the April 11 and 12, 2015 Governorship Election, the Rivers State APC wallowed in propaganda, having photo sessions in studios, thus neglecting the people.
Beyond the issue of Wike’s mass popularity is the fact that the leadership of the Rivers State APC raped and battered the state for eight years . These officials under the tutelage of immediate past Governor Rotimi Amaechi squandered N3trillion in the worst financial disaster ever to hit any state of the Federation. After eight years of failure, the people of the state looked for a disciplined, compassionate and focused leader. They settled for Governor Wike who broke the riverine/upland dichotomy.
The confirmation of Governor Wike’s election will further enhance the ongoing development process already entrenched in the state. With the conclusion of the legal challenge to the people's mandate, the Governor will consolidate on the gains of his superlative performance.
The calm and jubilant acceptance of the judgment across the 23 LGAS of Rivers State is a further proof that external forces can never shake the resolve of the people to stand by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the very best in this dispensation. Intimidation and other techniques have failed as the will of God and the preference of the people have been enthroned.
Since May 29, 2015, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike played host to several men of God from different denominations of the Christian faith and leaders of other religious persuasions. Like the people of Rivers State, all the religious leaders, hearing from God, declared that Wike was ordained by God for a time as this. The Rivers APC in several statements and releases made mockery of Governor Wike’s association with the clergy, claiming that 1000 high profile Preachers would not save him from their devilish onslaught. As they say, the rest is now history. The horse and its rider have been thrown into the sea by God. Rivers State is set apart by God for this trying phase in the history of Nigeria and it will always weather the storm of manipulations in high places.
It is necessary to highlight the issue of the appellation of 'caretaker governor ' introduced in our political lexicon by Rivers State APC whilst the legal tussle lasted. I find this interpretation by the Rivers State APC quite interesting and thought provoking. Though, in concert with their ever pliant media associates, the Rivers State APC sought to malign Governor Wike with the 'caretaker governor ' description, they inadvertently aptly described him.
Governor Wike was voted into office by the good people of Rivers State for his political, managerial and administrative skills of taking care of people. Like the traditional caretaker, Governor Wike is not the landlord since the people of Rivers State collectively own the state. He was only elected because the people found him worthy to effectively take care of the state. This caretaker governor will continue to develop Rivers State as that is what the people asked him to do.
It is about Rivers State. It has nothing to do with PDP or APC. It is about the preservation of the ideals of the state and the promotion of her dignity and interests. Nobody would be allowed to rubbish the state on the altar of servitude and financial greed.
In his state broadcast titled "To God be the Glory" after the judgment of the Supreme Court, Governor Wike praised God for the feat, commended the Judiciary for its independence and commitment to the rule of law and extended a hand of brotherly fellowship to the leadership of the Rivers APC and her governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside in the quest to develop the state.
He assured the people of the state of his determination to continue with the massive development of the state as he has done in the past eight months despite the distractions of the legal tussle.
He said : "The New Rivers Vision seeks a balanced development and enhanced quality of life for the present and future generations through responsive governance guided by the fear of God. I assure them that no one will be excluded from the governance process because, working together, we will certainly achieve more.
"We thank the Almighty God for His Grace. For without Him, we are nothing and we could have done or achieved nothing.
"As children of God, we pledge to continue to run a just and equitable administration that will hopefully lead to greater development for our State and the happiness of the greatest number of our people."
It is imperative to conclude that the Supreme Court by its well considered judgment in the Rivers State Governorship election tussle has returned power back to the people of Rivers State.
The implication is simple : Never again will a bunch of political misfits and charlatans think that they can wrest power from the people via the use of deadly propaganda, fictional testimonies in court and anti -people conspiracies in high places.
The judgment statement is unambiguous. Election can only be won at the polling unit, not through illegal means contrived in the homes of political armed robbers who deride their people every step of the way. Most importantly, Rivers State is NEW.

29th January, 2016.

Akpabio Refuses To Apologise To Goje over comments at the Senate
The 8th Assembly yesterday experienced a drama between former two governors and now serving Senators of the Federal Repulic of Nigeria in the persons of Senator Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Danjuma Goje over comments that was described as an attack on his integrity and personality.According to the Leadership Newspaper the drama started when Senate Minority Leader Akpabio accused Senator Goje of not doing enough in his state in the area of infrastructure when he held sway as governor between 2003 and 2011.
“I want to commend the President for raising capital expenditure to 30 per cent, but for me it is nothing new, it might be new to my Colleague Goje because while as governor he did not place premium on capital expenditure, but for me I was doing between 80 to 83 per cent of my budgets on capital projects and that is why there is massive developments in Akwa Ibom under my leadership.
“If you go to Akwa Ibom, you will see those developments”, he added.
But in a swift reaction, Senator Goje raised a point of order, drawing attention of the Senate to what he referred to as, “attack on his image and reputation “, accusing the Senate Minority Leader of deviating from the main issue of budget debate and misrepresentation of his views.
Attempts by Goje for his colleague to either withdraw his comments or apologise were in vain.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party wishes to assure all members of the party nationwide that there has not been any change whatsoever in the leadership composition of the party at the national level.
For the avoidance of doubt, the statutory organs of the party, the NWC, National Caucus, BoT and NEC will be meeting next week to deliberate on some developments including the replacement, from the North East of Alhaji Adamu Muazu, who resigned as the National Chairman of the party.
The replacement will be in strict adherence to the provisions of the constitution of our great party as specified in section 47(6). Until then, the status quo remains, which means the Deputy National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, remains as the Acting National Chairman.
Furthermore, it must be reiterated that all relevant stakeholders of our party, including the PDP Governor’s Forum, National Caucus and the Board of Trustees (BoT) as well as our leadership structures at all levels are united behind the current National Working Committee in the efforts to rebuild, reposition and strengthen our party for the challenges ahead.
The leadership of our party has resolved to remain focused and not be distracted by the unpatriotic actions of the former Political Adviser to the former President because we are privy to his agenda of being an agent of destabilization in the party.
While urging all members, especially those with various aspirations to dedicate to actions that unite rather than divide our ranks, the NWC wishes to assure of its unflinching commitment to the wider interest of the party, especially at this challenging time.

How to be a Clueless President-Femi Aribisala
Article by blogger Femi Aribisala stating how to be a clueless President running on a blame game.
Instead of giving Nigerians the change you championed, give them excuses. Blame Goodluck Jonathan for everything.
In six years of Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency, the opposition told us again and again the man was “clueless.” It made sure the tag stuck to him like glue. But now we have a new sheriff in town, with the APC claiming to be better at everything than the PDP. While that might still be subject to debate, there is overwhelming evidence that in the cluelessness department, the PDP is certainly no match for the APC.

Senate President Bukola Saraki replies former President Obasanjo's letter
He is good at writing letter. The former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday wrote a letter to the senate President Bukola Saraki. To acknowledge his letter the Senate President replied to his letter assuring him that the *th Senate will work according to the laws of the land.Read what he wrote on facebook below,
"Yesterday, I acknowledged that I received a letter from former President Olusegun Obasanjo in which he called the attention of the National Assembly to some issues.
I will want to assure President Obasanjo that the leadership and membership of the 8th Senate are committed to good governance, transparency, accountability, due process and responsiveness to the economic reality of our nation. It is for this reason that the legislative chamber has introduced bold and progressive reforms in the management of the finances of the National Assembly.
This is of even greater importance during a tough fiscal period for our country. Like i said during my closing address at the plenary after our debate on the 2016 Budget, the Senate must lead by example in terms of our own funding, budgets and accountability – showing, beyond doubt, value for money. I have canvassed that we must lay bare the budget of the Senate, nay the National Assembly and its affiliated institutions.
I equally canvassed the need to strengthen the capacity of the legislative institution to carry our effective oversight of the executive arm so that we can ensure the budget leads to the realization of the policy objectives of the Buhari Administration. Again, let me reiterate my position in the speech i made this morning on the need for us to work towards blocking all areas of revenue leakages while also strengthening the anti-corruption agencies so that the little resources that are now available will serve the interest of the overwhelming majority.
As a former President and a father of the nation that we all hold in high esteem , i intend to reply the letter and outline the actions the Senate is taking to address his concerns.
In conclusion, I appreciate President Obasanjo for his consistent role in always reminding those of us in government about our responsibilities to the general public and offering timely advise where necessary.
Signed
Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki"

Femi Falana replies Okonjo-Iweala saying she her attacks are baseless
The drama between the Financial Mogul and Legal luminary continues as the Senior advocate of Nigeria Femi Falane replies former minister of Finance Okonjo-Iweala saying her attacks are baseless.Read his response below,
"In my application to the Special Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) last week, I requested for investigation into the allegations of crimes against humanity committed by serving and retired military officers and their civilian accomplices. Having diverted over $8 billion earmarked for the procurement of arms and armament for counter insurgency operations I argued that the suspects who aided and abetted the dreaded Boko Haram sect in the barbaric killing of over 25 soldiers and civilians including children and the displacement of 2 million people ought to be prosecuted at the ICC. However, for having the temerity to request the ICC to investigate the crimes against humanity committed by some former public officers who bear full responsibility for the atrocities perpetrated by the terrorist group Dr. Okonjo-Iweala resorted to the scurrilous attack of my person.
Her baseless attack is not unusual as she is always quick to deflect criticisms by accusing anyone seeking to hold her to account for her appalling records in government of ulterior political motives. When Professor Chukwuma Soludo alleged that about N30 trillion could not be accounted for under her watch he was described as ‘an embittered loser in the Nigerian political space.’ When Comrade Adams Oshiomole questioned the illegal withdrawal of $2 billion from the Excess Crude Account, he was accused of having animus towards her because she had blocked Edo State from obtaining a loan. Therefore, instead of exchanging vulgar abuse with the former Minister I shall respond to the diversionary allegations which lacerated her response and the attempt to extricate herself from the mass looting of the commonwealth under her watch.
The claim that I am unfamiliar with the mandate of the ICC shows that Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala has not been following the practice of the court and its active and robust approach to its mandates, in particular with regard to the investigation of crimes in Darfur, the warrant of arrest for Joseph Kony (Uganda), and the warrant of arrest for Ahmad Harun, (Sudan). In many decided cases, the ICC has expanded its mandate to humanitarian issues, aimed at forestalling and impeding the perpetration of crimes which cause gross human rights abuse. There is absolutely nothing in the Rome Statute of the ICC to suggest that the court cannot address impunity for enormous financial crimes (and its crippling impact) which took place while Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala was the Finance Minister and the Coordinating Minister of the economy.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s claim that I own the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) is far-fetched and laughable. A simple google search would have shown her that while I am one of the legal advisers of the organization, there are other very distinguished lawyers and academics of international repute on SERAP’s board. Her claim that SERAP is ‘discredit’ is the exact opposite of reckless characterization because it is an organization that has won national and international recognitions – including nomination for the UN civil society award; the Ford Foundation Jubilee Transparency Award; and the Wole Soyinka Anti-Corruption Defender Award.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala also claimed that my petition against her to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) “were lacking in credibility”, without any substantiation of what this means or specific rebuttal of the allegations contained in that petition. She has however not denied the accuracy of the claims in my petition. Whereas the former Finance Minister had insisted that only $500 million was recovered from the Abacha loot my petition detailed the recovery of $4 billion. As she could not challenge my claim Dr. Okonjo-Iweala now says that the $500 million was the amount recovered while she was the Minister of Finance under President Obasanjo. In making that claim she did not take cognizance of her recent statement that while she gave out $322 million to Col. Dasuki the sum of $700 million had been set aside for development. From her own account, over $1 billion was recovered from the loot under the Jonathan regime when she was coordinating the economy.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala should have also provided further explanations as to why a substantial part of the Abacha loot was criminally diverted under her watch, especially in light of her confessional statement that she transferred $322m from the Abacha loot to former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, to prosecute the war on terror. Apart from the said $322m, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala also released £5.5m to Dasuki. Even on this ground alone, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala cannot plausibly claim not to have anything to do with the arms procurement scandal. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s excuse that the said $322m was released due to the urgency of the crisis in the North-East region is untenable having regard to the fact that former President Jonathan had sought the approval of the National Assembly to take a loan of $1bn to equip the armed forces to fight insurgency. Therefore, her self-induced urgency is not a justification for spending public funds without appropriation.
In the course of my defending several military officers and soldiers who were charged before court-martial for demanding weapons to fight the terrorists I confirmed that the $1 billion loan for arms procurement. I was compelled to request Dr. Okonjo-Iweala for an inventory of the military equipment purchased with the $1 billion loan. The requested inventory was made available to me as the weapons were not purchased.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has continued to give the erroneous impression that she rendered selfless service to the nation. But while her colleagues who served as ministers under President Olusegun Obasanjo were paid their salaries and allowances in the local currency she received hers in dollars despite a judgment of the Court of Appeal which had declared the payment illegal and unconstitutional in the case of Fawehinmi v The President (2007) 14 NWLR (Pt 1054) 275. In order to weep up sentiments Dr. Okonjo-Iweala referred to the unfortunate kidnap of her 84-year mother, two years ago. But it is public knowledge that the lumpen elements involved in the kidnap were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command. From the report of police investigation the kidnappers were palace guards who were inspired by sheer avarice. In fact, they were arrested by the Police following the disagreement over the sharing of the N12 million ransom paid to them for the criminal enterprise.
The most ludicrous of Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala sweeping and jejune allegation is that some “corrupt elements” are using me as a tool. Although the allegation is without factual support it is illogical, to say the least. My request that the disbursement of the Abacha loot be investigated is further buttressed by the fact that the $500m Dr. Okonjo-Iweala claimed was spent on development projects was also not appropriated by the National Assembly, contrary to constitutional provisions. However, I have asked the EFCC to discountenance the 700-page report of the World Bank which has listed some phantom projects executed with the $500 million.
In the Appropriation Act of 2011, the sum of N245 billion was budgeted for fuel subsidy. But at the end of the year, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala had authorized the illegal payment of about N2.5 trillion to a cabal of fuel importers. As usual, she washed off her hands like Pontius Pilate. In order to unearth the monumental fraud I petitioned the EFCC and gave oral testimony before the House of Representatives Committee which separately investigated it. In the same vein, I have just asked the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation under the Freedom of Information Act to provide information on the failure of the NNPC to pay into the Federation Account the sum of $9.7 billion out of the $11.8 billion dividends paid by NLNG from 2004-2014. I have equally demanded information from the NEITI over its claim that the NNPC and some oil companies are indebted to the Federal Government to the tune of $19.1 billion.
Finally, let me make it abundantly clear that my petitions to the anti-graft agencies and the Special Prosecutor of the ICC were anchored on law and facts as there is nothing personal in the ongoing battle to end impunity and retrieve the looted wealth of the nation from corrupt elements and institutions. It is my belief that the recovered loot should be channelled towards job creation and infrastructural development. Therefore, all hands should be on deck to ensure that the recovered loot is not criminally diverted by another set of looters."

Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan frowns at the new refugee law before the Danish Parliament today
Former United Nations Secretary General Annan is not happy with the way the European community is handling the refugee law and is currently worried on the new refugee law before the Danish Parliament today. He took to his facebook page to share his concerns and advised the European Union to focus on forging the common migration policy the continent urgently needs.Read what he wrote below,
"I am worried by the new refugee law before the Danish Parliament today. It is in sharp contrast with Denmark’s humanitarian and social traditions, and highlights a worrying trend in European politics: An issue that should have helped Europe to rally together in solidarity to forge a common approach is regretfully having the opposite effect.
The threat to confiscate migrants’ valuables and to delay to three years the waiting period before they can be reunited with their families is not in the spirit of the European Convention on Human Rights, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the UN Refugee Convention, all of which Denmark is a party to.
The failure of the European Union to agree to a common migration policy is leading to a race to the bottom by member states. Attempting to push problems to one's neighbors is not a sustainable strategy. If the law before Parliament today in Denmark is passed, I fear to think what the next national response will be.
While European states have to address the legitimate concerns of their citizens regarding the historic influx of migrants since last year, they cannot do so at the expense of their values, ideals and international law. By doing so, they offer violent movements a victory they could never have won on their own.
I encourage the member states of the European Union to focus on forging the common migration policy the continent urgently needs.

Jose Mourinho joins Portuguese presidential campaign trail
Sacked Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has joined the Portuguese presidential campaign trail, backing conservative candidate Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in a video posted on YouTube.
The 52-year-old Mourinho, who parted company with Premier League champions Chelsea last month, called Rebelo de Sousa a “charismatic winner” in the video message.
“It’s the first time I publicly state my support for a candidate, because I think Portugal needs to make the right choice, more than ever,” said Mourinho, who looked relaxed and was casually dressed, comfortably sitting on a couch as he addressed viewers.
“I have a clear understanding that we need a winner, but not only a winner. We need charisma, and uniting these winning qualities and charisma, I think that’s what Portugal needs right now.
“I know the man and the politician. We need a charismatic winner,” added the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan coach.
“So, without any reservation, I take this public position for the first time: I vote Marcelo and I do so because I am convinced he is the right choice for us.”
Rebelo de Sousa, a 67-year-old professor of law and veteran TV political commentator, is leading the polls in the race to succeed conservative president Aníbal Cavaco Silva with voting getting underway
Financial Times UK calls President Buhari's economic policies "The Height of Foolishness"
One of the renowned and leading international financial media house,The Financial Times UK,has just summarized and described the economic policies of President Buhari's administration as the "height of foolishness". The article was written by Steve Johnson,Deputy editor of the FT's EM squared section.
Below is the full article as culled from the publication,
"Nigeria plans to create a $25 billion fund with public and private financing to modernize infrastructure and avoid a recession.
Copying Venezuela’s exchange rate policy and China’s failed equity market strategy might seem the height of foolishness.
But, at least in the opinion of John Ashbourne, Africa economist at Capital Economics, that is precisely what Nigeria, the continent’s largest economy, has just done.
“Low oil prices are battering Nigeria’s export-dependent economy, but it’s the government’s market-distorting response that risks pushing the country into a Venezuela-style crisis,” Mr Ashbourne says.
“Nigeria is sliding towards a Venezuela-style FX regime and adopting a Chinese-style stock market circuit breaker. Neither will reassure foreign investors, many of whom seem to be eyeing the exits.”
Both measures were announced after markets closed on Friday, January 15.
The circuit breaker on the Nigerian stock exchange, one of the worst performing in the world this year with a fall of 17.7 per cent, will pause trading for 30 minutes if stock prices fall 5 per cent. Trading will cease for the day if it is triggered twice in a session, or after 1.45pm.
This month, Beijing abandoned a similar policy after just four days, concluding that in a falling market the existence of the circuit breaker encouraged more selling as traders rushed to exit while they could.
“The effect is akin to calling last orders at a crowded bar,” Mr Ashbourne says. “It is hardly confidence-inspiring that Nigeria is copying a Chinese policy that is widely seen to have failed.”
He accepts that Nigeria’s circuit breaker may not be as badly designed as the Chinese version. Whereas the NSE All Share index rarely falls by 5 per cent a day, the Shanghai Composite did so a dozen times in 2015. The NSE’s version has not yet been called into action.
Nevertheless, Mr Ashbourne says that using a circuit breaker to shore up the market, rather than to avoid volatility, is “deeply flawed”.
Simultaneously, the central bank has said it will stop selling US dollars into the interbank FX market.
Nigeria has operated a de facto twin currency system for the naira since February 2015, when the bank held the official interbank rate at N199 to the dollar to avoid a spike in inflation. The unofficial rate, available at bureaux de change, has plunged to N300/$, as the first chart shows.
However Mr Ashbourne argues the latest move takes Nigeria a step along the road to a Venezuela-style scenario, where the dollar now buys 913 bolívars on the black market, according to dolartoday.com, compared with an unofficial rate of 6.28/$.
“Suspending US dollar sales to the interbank market will force consumers and firms to source dollars at bureaux de change,” he says, while providing an implicit subsidy for companies and individuals with the connections needed to access the official rate.
As the second chart shows, Nigeria’s reluctance to let the naira’s official exchange rate weaken means it has borne the brunt of the sharp fall in oil prices since the middle of 2014.
In naira terms, the oil price has fallen from $115 a barrel to around $35, with the modicum of weakening permitted so far doing little to take the edge off the fall in oil prices to $28 in dollar terms.
In contrast, Russia, which has allowed the rouble to fall sharply, is still seeing oil prices of around $65 in local currency terms, with many other oil exporters such as Brazil and Azerbaijan also seeing more cushioning of the blow than Nigeria.
Charles Robertson, chief global economist at Renaissance Capital, who drew up the second chart, expects Nigeria to bow to the seemingly inevitable and devalue the naira, given that his calculation of fair value is N305/$, very close to the current black market rate.
He notes that frontier market funds are now underweight Nigerian equities, and believes that international investors “are likely to remain on the sidelines,” barring an obvious catalyst for change.
Nevertheless he believes a devaluation to N250/$, “while no longer sufficient to ease all dollar shortages … would be good enough to warrant investors taking a fresh look at Nigeria, especially if they expect a rebound in the oil price”.
Daniel Salter, global equity strategist at RenCap, has been busy analysing just when equity market investors should consider returning to a freshly devalued Nigeria, if history is anything to go by.
Mr Salter analysed 13 emerging market currency devaluations since 1994 in countries ranging from Mexico and Turkey to Egypt and South Korea.
His conclusions are that it is rarely worth buying in anticipation of a currency devaluation and that, on average, equity markets do not hit their low point (in dollar terms) until 99 days after the start of the currency devaluation.
This delay can vary significantly, though, as the final chart shows. In the case of South Korea in 1997 the stock market troughed the day before the won started to fall. In Nigeria itself, in 2009, this point was reached after 35 days.
However in the cases of Thailand (1997), the Philippines (1998) and Egypt (2001), it would have paid equity market investors to stay out for at least six months.
Mr Salter believes the lag is due to two factors: the initial devaluation is often insufficient to stabilise the currency; and that devaluations frequently coincide with banking crises.
Unfortunately, this analysis probably tells us little about how Nigeria’s equity market is likely to behave in the year after any devaluation.
In the 13 previous episodes, the stock market typically fell 3 per cent in dollar terms in the three months after the start of the devaluation. However, as the above chart shows, there has been huge variability in this figure, from -56 per cent in Mexico in 1994-1995 to +100 per cent in South Korea in 1997-98.
Likewise, on average the typical stock market gained 4 per cent in dollar terms in the year after the devaluation, but once again this is the average of a widely dispersed data set, with the returns ranging from -86 per cent (Indonesia, 1997-98) to +172 per cent (South Korea).
The sector breakdown perhaps delivers a clearer message. RenCap found that consumer staples stocks have tended to outperform in the 12 months after the start of a devaluation, while consumer discretionary companies and industrials tend to pick up once the currency has bottomed.
Financial stocks, in contrast, tend to be the worst sector in the year after a devaluation, probably due to declining credit quality.

"“I think God has a hand in the current economic predicament of the country" — APC Chairman
Below are the statement of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun.The statement was made on Thursday at the national secretariat office of the All Progressive Congress in Abuja while he was hosting a 15-member delegation of an APC support group, Change Agents Foundation (CAF) led by its Director-General, Felix Felix. The chairman was quoted saying that the present economic crisis rocking the country could be an act of God to remind Nigeria of the need to implement and embrace radical change which is the party's slogan.
“I think God has a hand in the current economic predicament of the country. Imagine the sudden fall in the price of crude oil, the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, from its heights in 2014, averaging $112 per barrel down to the current price of $28 per barrel — lower than the $38 per barrel which the proposed 2016 budget is predicated on,”
“It is an object lesson for us. It tells us that we must embrace radical change in our economic model.”
“The concept of change is a difficult one. Nigeria must be ready to adapt to new ways of doing things. As a party, we know and understand it calls for tremendous sacrifice, there is no other way. Yes the economy is in a bad shape, but maybe that is the kick we need to be innovative and find ways to drive the economy out of the woods.
“The luck we have is that we have as president a man committed to personal probity and sincerity of purpose to the project of developing Nigeria. Today, we must think and be innovative in ways of fashioning out new economic models which diversifies from the present over reliance on oil.
“We are in the process of organizing a three-day dialogue which will bring the party, government and stakeholders for an exposition on the realities facing the country, particular the economy. It will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas so that we go home with a clear direction on how to go forward.”Source Premium times.
We are hoping God will have mercy on this country and delivery us from this current economic predicament Amen.

The Force Management Team has taken a step towards the restoration of civil authority in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, some of the liberated areas in the North East as it deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Department of Operations, DIG Sotonye Wakama, to move with a team of intelligence officers to the area for need assessment and other scooping activities.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, during an interactive session organised by the Senate, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, fdc, NPM, stated that the Police is carrying out a scooping mission aimed at relieving the Military of some duties for law and order to be restored in the part of the country.
The IGP, while noting that guaranteeing the safety of persons and property, and restoring public trust in the maintenance of order and stability remain the cardinal keys in re-establishing a working society after violent conflict. He further said the Nigeria Police Force will deploy more personnel and equipment to the North East to provide Police security and to create a secure environment necessary for the return of IDPs to their respective communities.
He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force places a high value on the preservation of human life and believed that the prevention of crime is its number one operational priority and will therefore involve the community in the delivery of these services. Remarks by the Secretary-General at Gender Parity Global Challenge Trustees Meeting
21 January 2016
Your Excellency, Ms. Justine Greening, Secretary of State for International Development of the United Kingdom,
Trustees Co-chairs Ms. Sheila Penrose, Chairman of the Board, JLL, USA, and Jonas Prising, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, ManpowerGroup, USA,
Mr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank
Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN-Women,
Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,
I am delighted to be here for one of my signature campaigns as United Nations Secretary-General.
For the past nine years, I have made women’s empowerment a top priority.
I have advocated around the world – and I have promoted women leaders across the United Nations.
We are showing by example how women can make a difference – and inspire young girls to aim high in life.
I applaud all the Trustees of this Board. You are champions of gender parity.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is firmly rooted in gender equality. Thank you all for helping push for ambitious targets in this visionary document.
Now we have to rally all partners.
When governments, the business community and civil society join forces back the United Nations we can push back against the discrimination in our world.
Globally, two and a half million women spend more time on unpaid care and domestic work than men. In the developing world, three quarters of women are only informally employed, with no social protections. Around the world, a woman’s paycheck is barely more than three quarters of what a man earns.
This has to change.
Women’s economic empowerment is a key to unlock progress across society. Evidence shows more money in the hands of women means more food in the mouths of children, more resources for education, better investments in the family and greater progress for the community.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today I am proud to announce the establishment of a High Level Panel for Women’s Economic Empowerment.
The Panel will make action-oriented recommendations on how to improve economic outcomes for women in the context of the SDGs, promote women’s leadership in driving economic growth, and galvanize political will.
I am pleased to announce as co-Chairs His Excellency President Luis Guillermo Solis of Costa Rica and Ms. Simona Scarpaleggia, CEO of IKEA Switzerland.
They will be joined on the panel by other eminent leaders.
I will deliver an initial report on the panel’s work in September.
I extend my warm thanks to Justine Greening, UK Secretary of State for International Development, and to Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women for championing this initiative.
I also thank the Government of the United Kingdom for its financial support, and President Kim of the World Bank Group, which is deeply engaged.
Together, we can make a quantum shift for women in work.
Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today I am also pleased to announce the establishment of the Every Woman Every Child High-Level Advisory Group. Its members are leaders from governments, the business community, philanthropy and civil society. We are setting it up to relocate the extremely successful Every Woman Every Child initiative into the new context of the 2030 Agenda.
This will address how it should evolve in ways that contribute to the spirit and principles of the 2030 Agenda as seen from the perspective of children, adolescent girls and women, their communities and those responsible for responding to their needs. Women's health and their access to care and support is such an important contributor to their income and empowerment.
I thank Her Excellency President Bachelet of Chile and His Excellency Prime Minister Desalegn of Ethiopia for serving as co-chairs.
When we empower, we will see benefits reverberate around the world and across generations.
Thank you.

I don't own any house in Dubai - Fayose
The outspoken governor of Ekiti State Mr Ayodele Fayose has open declared that he does not own a house in Dubai as claimed by the ruling party the APC.He declared to waive his immunity so that he can be prosecuted and if any house or even flat is linked to him in Dubai stating he will never deny his property if he ever had a property.Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose the angry governor said it was painful that the APC that seized power in Nigeria through falsehood and propaganda were still lying to Nigerians even after eight months of assuming office,
He said; "I'm not among those lily livered Nigerians that will deny their assets anywhere.
"They are in the federal government and they should have access to all information both in Nigeria and abroad. I therefore challenge them to check books on owners of all properties in Dubai.
"If they trace any house to me in Dubai, the federal government should make public all the details including pictures, location and title documents.
"The government should also confiscate such property and I am ready to waive my immunity to be prosecuted."
The governor also reiterated his commitment to speaking the truth at all times, not minding whose ox is gorred, adding that; "No amount of their falsehood and propaganda can silence me."
He said; "They have taken their propaganda to the most ridiculous height and it is shameful that after taking over Nigeria by falsehood, they are still lying to deceive Nigerians just to cover up their lack of solution to the country's economic problems."

Federal Government urged to impose tax on cigarettes and alcohol - Senate chief whip
The Federal Government has been called upon to impose tax on cigarettes, alcohol by Senator Olusola Adeyeye, the chief whip of the 8th senate. He made this recommendation so that the country can earn more revenue to assist the dwindling economy. He made this known during a debate on the 2016 budget at the senate on Thursday.
In a statement issued after the session, he said: “Today, I once again stood before the Nigerian people to speak on the general principles and merits of the estimates of the 2016 appropriation bill brought by President Muhammadu Buhari before the hallowed chambers of the national assembly.”
“I did not mince words in saying that the 8th national assembly has given itself too short a time to do justice to the 2016 appropriation bill, unlike congressional practice in the US which has budget submitted to the congress eight months before the approval. “There should be a law that mandates the current and future Nigerian Presidents to submit the annual budgets at a timely and appropriate period. I further pointed out that the N115bn allocated to national assembly representing only 1.8 percent of the whole budget of N6.08trn will not be shared by senators and honourables but includes the expansive staff strength of the national assembly which are as large as that of any government ministry.
“This also includes resources to National Assembly Staff Commission (NASC) and the National Institute of Legislative Studies (NILS). It is therefore unfair to portray the impression that it is because of the profligacy of the national assembly that Nigeria has economic challenges. It is rather due to the profligacy of the entire nation. “The United States has up to three research departments that independently conduct researches on budget with the Congressional Budget Office being the most respected. This is what we hope to achieve in the 8th assembly with the National Assembly Budget and Research Office (NABRO). “In furtherance, I pointed out that about 54 percent of the annual budget of the US comes from tax, suggesting that we must expand our tax system as a nation. If we want to move this country forward, we must begin to tax cigarettes and alcohol; we must begin to tax allowances and the parking tolls in our airports must be per hour.
“In conclusion, as a country we must sit down to decide our areas of priority. We cannot keep on fighting ourselves for increased allocation to different sectors of the economy without a goal. I believe we must focus on education as the 6 – 7 percent we are budgeting for education is not enough. There is no greater infrastructure in any country than the minds of the young ones. We must equally reduce the cost of governance as a nation. We must jettison the use of extravagant cars by judges, Senators and Ministers and follow the likes of Ahmadu Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo in going back to ‘Operation Low Profile’ of using Peugeot 504 cars.”
