Paris bans use of cars produced before 1997

Paris has banned the use of cars produced before 1997 in an effort to reduce air pollution.The ban took effect from Friday 1st July Any vehicles or motorcycles registered before before 1999 is banned from being used by its owner during week days between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.Violators will face strict fines of about €35 (£32) but they have the chance to drive freely into the city on weekends.

It is recorded that air pollution, caused by fuel emissions, kills about 48,000 people each year in France and around 3.7 million worldwide, according to France’s public health agency and air pollution cost France €100 billion (£84 billion) each year.
